The Jesuit Square or Square of the Lights nowdays became in a very strong and traditional shopping area in Cordoba city and shows part of the work considered from the year 2000 by UNESCO, Patrimony of the Humanity in the Argentine Republic.

In 1599 the Jesuits settled in Córdoba, on the lots ceded by the Cabildo of the City, where there existed since 1589 a small hermitage that soon became insufficient to house religious, students and faithful. Therefore, from 1608 begin the construction works that would give shape to the present Jesuit Square.

 In 1854 the University and the Colegio de Monserrat were nationalized, constituting the original nucleus of the current National University of Cordoba.

The Jesuit Reverends, the Order of the Company of Jesus founded by St. Ignatius of Loyola, were in charge of the construction of one of the most important buildings in South America. His strong educational conviction and evangelizing mission left Cordoba one of the oldest universities in the region, which earned him the name of "la Docta".

Here you can visit one of the oldest churches in the country, the Church of the Company of Jesus, dating from 1761, made with materials of the area with simple architecture, which contrasts instead with the interior and the Domestic Chapel, private of the parents, created in 1644.

Next to the main church is the University Museum. The courtyard of what is now known as the Rectorate of the National University of Cordoba has a cloistered format surrounded by galleries, in which stands the statue of Bishop Fray Fernando Fernando de Trejo and Sanabria to the center and the Hall of Degrees in an of the galleries. There the doctoral theses were presented and at the moment it is placed protocol. The Jesuit Library has old copies of the historic Jesuit library.

To this historical block, are added the Jesuit Stations (separated by a few kilometers between them) all together form the patrimonial set in Córdoba.
