The Argentine grill, at the top. The Don Julio restaurant was chosen as the best in Latin America. A building from the late nineteenth century and an emblem of the Palermo neighborhood is the scene of this immersion in Argentine culture. In Don Julio, the grill takes the spotlights and everything combines perfectly so that diners can discover the cuisine that represents Argentina in a single meal, described by the organization as the world's 50 best restaurants.
Since 2002, this entity has tried to capture the diversity of the culinary world and reflect its best proposals. In this way, it has more than 1000 experts and a structured and audited voting procedure, from which year after year it tries to discover the best gastronomic offers.
In addition to its annual ranking - which this year was postponed to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic - this organization also studies regional proposals, particularly from Asia and Latin America. On November 3, the 50 best in Latin America were met and the Argentines led the list.
The owner of Don Julio is Pablo Rivero, who since the age of 20 has been immersed in the culinary universe. As described by those in charge of the award, through Don Julio this businessman "shows the world the culinary panorama of the country." And they add: "Thanks to its great vocation for service, the restaurant was recognized in 2018 with the Art of Hospitality Award and, in 2020, Rivero takes Don Julio to the top of gastronomy as The Best Restaurant in Latin America, sponsored by S. Pellegrino & Acqua Panna ".
The chef is Guido Tassi, who, they admit, adds great value to the restaurant. As suggested by this organization, those who go must try the local meat. In line with this, they recommend starting with the house sausages, then the achuras and entraña, and accompanying it with French fries and roasted vegetables. For dessert, homemade ice creams and cheeses with regional sweets. "The restaurant has one of the largest wineries in Argentina, with more than 20,000 bottles," they emphasize.
Beside to Don Julio, the other Argentine venues that were highlighted by this ranking are: Mishiguene (8th), Tegui (16th), Chila (19th), Gran Dabbang (34th), Osaka (38th), El Baqueano (39 °), Narda Comedor (40 °) and Aramburu (43 °).
